For those that joined Make a Move, Any Move last week, you know that it was the methodical, honest, candid, real, actionable kick-in-the-butt we needed! Just because the world around us is full of uncertainty, negativity, and doubt – doesn’t mean we should be.  As The Notorious RBG said: “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.”

Many thanks to our experts—Danielle Belton and Julie Kantor, Ph.D.—who led us on this snap-outta-it journey. Danielle shared her sometimes-hard-to-explain career journey to her place of bliss now, as Editor of The Root. Through mental health struggles, multiple address changes, and stops-and-starts with different pursuits, she reminded us that: ”You are more than your job.” Change isn’t always about climbing a work ladder or that next promotion. Danielle shared that it’s about recognizing who we are as individuals, and then mapping a course to authenticity and happiness.

Julie provided the crash-course on how to map that journey! The practical steps she’s gained as a business psychologist, executive coach, and trusted advisor are simple: we must assess our Change Triangle:

Feelings [Label]
Thoughts [Decide]
Behaviors [Move]

She reminded us that a real action plan is easier than we make it—if we see change (any change) as an opportunity and not let perfectionism cripple us. (Us? Perfectionists? How’d she know? And yes, we’ve shared the amazing visuals with you here.)

We were awed by the back-to-back commemorative days this past weekend: National Mental Health Day (Saturday) and International Girl’s Day (Sunday). Danielle and Julie—you exposed your experiences and realities of both last week; thank you for sharing with us your struggles, celebrations, and life-lessons.

It’s too easy to get caught up in the web of confusion in these chaotic times. But, we are Baes. And Baes know, with a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality and totally Baetastic-community, we can make a move—any move—towards a healthier, happier, more authentic life together.

Until next time, we are thrilled to be on the journey together!
