Women’s History Month

Is
it wrong to admit in a post for a women’s tech group that I was really annoyed when I was reminded that it was Women’s History Month? Actually, Women’s History Month, Pride, Black History Month – they all kind of bother me. The fact that we need these months
reminds me how far we all are from equal, which makes me angry and sad.

But
I don’t like being sad and angry, so to change my perspective I thought I’d use March 1st to thank women on Linkedin who had helped me change my perspective at one point or another. I thought of a few people quickly. It was easy. Then I thought I’d add women who’ve inspired me. The list grew longer. Women who started as mommy friends and then changed my work life.
Even longer.

I
started to wonder how many women I could tag in a Linkedin Post. 100? 200? Was there a limit? Every time I thought I came up with a good list, I’d think of one more, five more, ten more. The list seemed unending.

Because
– it is. The list of inspiring women out there is absolutely unending. And just thinking of them turned a momentary annoyance into a joyous month-long celebration. I’ve spent Women’s History Month not being angry, but instead I’ve been inspired as I shared the stories of many of the women I’ve been lucky to call friend, mentor, colleague, classmate, teammate, and more in short Linkedin posts throughout the month.

And
it’s not surprising that I’ve met many of these incredible women through TechBae, which has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to inspiring women. Here’s to all of us continuing to celebrate and inspire each other long after Women’s History Month is over!
